Leah Mullins

The biggest lesson I learned as a newbie in IT was to not be afraid to ask somebody for help. When you’re first starting out, there are all sorts of acronyms thrown at you, so if you don’t know the terminology, it’s best to just ask! No one is going to think less of you for wanting to be better at your job!

Resources

Did you know? There is an Educause Women in IT group, and if you are part of IU, you have access to it. The Women in IT Community Group collaborates and disseminates effective practices in the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in higher education IT. Meaningful connections are made through a variety of collaboration tools, providing an opportunity for addressing a wide range of topics impacting women IT professionals in colleges and universities.

An Educause account is required to join the Educause Connect women in IT community. This group offers a message board, monthly Zoom calls, a reading group, and more. Three of the IUWIT Steering Committee members connected with the Educause WIT group during the poster session at the annual Educause conference last month.
