How Recipients Are Selected
The review committee, made up of IUWIT Steering Committee volunteers, regularly evaluate applications based on the following criteria. We hope that by providing this information, applicants will be able to improve their materials.
- Is the applicant in a staff role? (Must be “Yes” or “Maybe” to be considered)
- Yes, the applicant is a staff member.
- Maybe; the applicant is a non-faculty academic appointee (such as clinical or researchers). Their eligibility can be checked with human resources.
- No, the applicant is a faculty member (full or part time).
- No, the applicant is a student.
- Does the application meet timeframe requirements? (Must be “Yes” or “N/A” to be considered)
- N/A - there is no timeframe.
- Yes, the application was submitted over 4 weeks before the event's start date.
- Yes, the event will take place before June 15th, 2022.
- No, the application was submitted too late.
- Does the application demonstrate alignment with the IUWIT Mission?
- No clear alignment/relevance to IUWIT mission.
- Minimal alignment to IUWIT mission; however, the applicant is female-identifying and the professional development is technical in nature.
- Will advance the IUWIT mission to some extent. Examples include networking opportunities for women, trans and nonbinary tech workers.
- High relevance to the IUWIT mission.
Possible elements of alignment:
- Advance career of one or more women+ in a field that has few women+
- Advocates or raises concerns about inequities in IT
- Is related to work-life balance (especially for caregivers or other traditionally female roles)
- Help women+ and allies understand and remove barriers to women working in IT
- Importance to the applicant’s professional development
- It’s unclear how the PD request would support the applicant’s (current) role or goals.
- The PD request seems like it could build toward a short-term goal, but not necessarily a long-term one.
- The PD request has potential to build toward a longer-term goal.
- The PD request would create immediate professional improvement in their work at IU.
- The grant fulfills a PD need that might otherwise be left unmet, allowing for immediate professional improvement in work at IU.
- Impact of the professional development (PD) on the IU staff community
- No impact beyond the recipient.
- Impact is that the PD will improve the recipient’s working skillset and possibly lead to career advancement.
- PD will provide small ripple-effect impact in IU community beyond the grant recipient, such as improving their work. Thus IU benefits from greater efficiency or better strategy.
- PD fits the idea of “greatest good for the greatest number.”
- Budget justification (This is an optional field but could be used to rank otherwise equal applications)
- No justification included.
- Budget details are provided, but further funds are needed and are not being pursued.
- Budget details are clear and demonstrate planning as well as exploring other funding sources, if needed.
- Has the applicant completed the acknowledgements in the application form? These acknowledgements include securing a university account to put the grant funds into, and willingness to share with the IUWIT community how the grant-funded PD benefited you.
- Yes, the applicant completed all the acknowledgements sections.
- No, the applicant failed to complete one or more acknowledgments. Follow-up will be needed before approval.
