Events & Opportunities for IU Staff

NEW: Professional Development Grants

IUWIT (IU Women in Information Technology) is excited to offer professional development grants for Spring 2023. Funding of up to $300 per applicant is available. Professional Development is broadly defined to include leadership training, onsite and virtual training, travel to participate in events/conferences, and purchasing books or other media. Have another idea? Make your case! Applications are open to people of any gender, from any IU campus.

Applications for funding will be selected based on alignment with IUWIT’s mission and goals of advancing women in tech, and the level of impact to the IU community. You can learn more on the IUWIT website.

Apply now for the Spring 2023 PD grant cycle

Applications will be evaluated starting the first week of January, accepted on a rolling basis through May 1, 2023 until all funds are disbursed. All professional development activities must take place between Jan. 9 and June 15, 2023. (Note: No after-the-fact applications will be funded).

ITLC Leadership Discussion: “Stop Wasting Time – Run Effective Meetings”

Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023 1-2 p.m. EST

Join the discussion to learn how to run more effective meetings and boost engagement. This includes defining the purpose and outcomes of your meetings, being clear about who should attend the meeting, assigning homework and roles, and strategies to make your meetings more inclusive.

Candid Conversations for Caregivers

As a professional with a full-time job, the added responsibility of caregiving can certainly take a toll on you. Join us to connect with other staff at IU who are also tackling these challenges and learn about how to handle caregiving more effectively.

Mini-Conference: Embrace the Journey Career Mapping Workshop (BTAA WIT)

Wednesday, February 15, 2023 10 a.m. - noon EST

The Big Ten Academic Alliance Women in IT group is offering a mini-conference for February in lieu of a typical monthly coffee catchup. This even if free and open to any gender. This two-hour event starts with a keynote, then moves to small group activities to develop your own career maps. The IU Career Navigator tool may be an excellent resource for this activity.

Care.com Care Talks for 2023

IU offers employer benefits through a partnership with Care.com. Many of these are directly related to IUWIT’s focus on resources for caregivers, so we are promoting them here as a resource for our members. Throughout 2023, Care.com will be hosting seven Care Talks per month across seven themes:

Did you know? There is an Educause Women in IT group, and if you are part of IU, you have access to it. The Women in IT Community Group collaborates and disseminates effective practices in the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in higher education IT. Meaningful connections are made through a variety of collaboration tools, providing an opportunity for addressing a wide range of topics impacting women IT professionals in colleges and universities.

An Educause account is required to join the Educause Connect women in IT community . This group offers a message board, monthly Zoom calls, a reading group, and more. Three of the IUWIT Steering Committee members connected with the Educause WIT group during the poster session at the annual Educause conference last month.
