What is the IUWIT Professional Development Grant?
IU Women in Information Technology is excited to offer professional development grants to our community. Professional Development is broadly defined to include leadership training, onsite and virtual training, travel to participate in events/conferences, and purchasing books or other media. We encourage creativity in thinking about how to find professional development that is right for you and also advances the goals of IUWIT.
Grants are generously funded by the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO.
Who may apply?
- Applications are open to staff members from any IU campus.
- Applicants can be of any gender.
- Both full-time and part-time staff may be considered.
What are the deadlines?
All professional development activities must take place before June 15th of the current fiscal year. Applications begin being accepted as early as July of the current fiscal year, and review will take place on a rolling basis subject to availability of funds.
Planning your application:
The following things will be required by the application form. It might be helpful to work on them in advance, then log in to fill out the application.
- Description of the activity that you would like the grant to fund. Be sure to include enough detail, because the review committee may not have ever heard of the organization providing this professional development.
- Description of why this activity is important to you and your own professional development.
- Description of how this aligns with IUWIT's mission and goals of advancing women in technology at Indiana University.
- Description of the overall budget for the professional development you are pursuing, even if it is more than the $300 maximum, and if you have pursued other funds.
- Specific date of the activity, if applicable.
Additional notes:
If the activity takes place during regular work hours, you will need a supervisor's approval to participate, or you need to request time off. Applications received with less than four weeks’ notice of an activity may not be approved. Activities that have already occurred will not be retroactively funded.
Process and policies:
Selection committees will review applications on a rolling basis. Funding must be approved and spent within the same academic/fiscal year. If you are selected, IUWIT will disburse funds into an IU account. You will then use the typical university pre-payment and reimbursement processes to spend the funds.
